According to Proverbs chapter 26 verse 27, it is written “whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein, and he that rolleth a stone, it will return”.
In 1989, a local tabloid published in Abuja named Abuja Newsletter had a banner headline I WILL WITNESS OLUMBA’S FUNERAL – by Benson Idahosa. In that that paper, Archbishop Benson Idahosa, the then General Overseer of Grace of God Mission Incorporated, with headquarters in Benin, was quoted as saying that he would witness the death of our Holy Father, Leader Olumba Olumba Obu, because, according to him, ” Olumba is claiming to be God”. He told the whole world that he was preparing to disgrace and dislodge Brotherhood of the Cross and Star and its leadership out if existence. His church members and other churches were jubilant over his boasting and they happily distributed the newsletter to all the nooks and crannies, especially in Benin-City.
To make good is threat, Archbishop Idahosa invited BCS members to his church’s annual convention of that year (November 1989) at the church’s headquarters in Benin City. The brethren in Benin invited the then chairman of BCS Crusade, late Pastor Etop, who came with other members of the fellowship from Calabar.
On that fateful day, Archbishop Idahosa sent buses to BCS members in Benin to convey us to the venue. We attended the convention in large number. Idahosa used the occasion to do a fundraising , i.e. launching of a book, which he requested BCS to launch handsomely. Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Church was there. There and then, Pastor Etop donated #30,000.00 on behalf of BCS. Thereafter, Idahosa started lampooning BCS members and calling us “church of banana, groundnuts and 6-yard white garment”. He told us to leave BCS and join his church and that BCS was destined to sink. What an insult to an Organization that just doled out #30,000.00 to a covetous self-made Archbishop! #30,000.00 then is worth over #3 million today.
A week after the visit, Edo State Exco, which I was privileged to be a member travelled to see the Holy Father in Calabar, to brief Him on our mission to Idahosa. When we saw the Holy Father and after briefing Him, the Father said ” my children, why do you waste your time going to Idahosa? Idahosa is not a child of God. He is a juju man. I aknow where he goes to prepare juju there in Benin, to perform his so-called miracles. Forget about him, my children”. Thereafter, we returned to Benin and complied with the Holy Father’s advice.
Beloved brethren, after about three years, on one Sunday afternoon, Edo State owned radio (EBS) flashed a news: ARCHBISHOP BENSON IDAHOSA IS DEAD! There was dead silence in Benin and the whole of Edo State, because he was hale and hearty. He suffered a cardiac arrest (arrest by Angels). According to the news, he had some white men guests, whom he was having a lunch with when the tragedy struck. That was the end of Archbishop Benson A. Idahosa, who was known as the father of pentecostalism in Nigeria.
Of a truth, Archbishop Benson Idahosa fell into the pit he dug for Leader Olumba Olumba Obu and the the stone he rolled against the Father, rolled back and crushed him.
