Story by Nana Poku
Before the drafting of The People’s Manifesto of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Jomoro Constituency, Madam Dorcas Affo-Toffey had lobbied for several projects for her constituency aside from the ones that are general to all constituencies.
Lo and behold her demands were accepted and captured in the much touted ‘The People’s Manifesto’ of the NDC.
Notable among what she lobbied for include a modernized market facility to be constructed in Elubo (Under Big Push, Page 89, item 10 of NDC Manifesto) and a railway
to link Elubo directly to Sekondi-Takoradi. (Page 25)
These according to her will ease the pressure on the Elubo-Takoradi road to make it last longer than it is expected, increase legitimate income generation activities along that stretch, and also
Lift the status of the Jomoro Constituency as a whole.
This effort by the woman often referred to as the Action Woman, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, has drawn the attention of Ghanaians far and near to Jomoro and herself.
Her constituents have decided to vote her into power if she has been able to lobby for her people successfully. According to them it is a sign of her ambition and will power to develop Jomoro.
In an interview with a constituent of Jomoro by name ‘Egya Adade Essien,’
He indicates that Hon. Dorcas’ vision for Jomoro is far bigger than what he anticipates.
“Dorcas has done a lot of developmental projects even as a candidate in opposition, that is one, now she has lobbied for her requests to be included in the NDC’s manifesto, so what again must she prove before we the people of Jomoro realise that she wants her constituency to move beyond this stage in terms of development?
I am an NPP person but my vote is going for Dorcas. I will further analyse the manifesto and see if i would vote for Mahama in addition because my President has also disappointed me”
Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey is set to launch her manifesto which advances on ‘The Peoples Manifesto’ which is Constituency Focused, in the coming days.
